If you make a ski tour, you will find untouched winter landscapes, unaffected powder slopes and breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains in HerzBergLand.
The more lonesome way on the Leobner starting at Schoberpass
Difficulty: II-III
Season: autumn, winter and spring
Overall duration: 5 hours
Characteristics:
Start at the valley floor of Vorwald (municipality of Wald am Schoberpass) to reach one of the most famous skiing mountains of the Eisenerzer Alps. The marked summer paths through wooded areas are used for the ascent. The descent from Leobner to the Aigelsbrunneralm is an insider tip.
Tour description:
The marked path to the Leobner across Aigelsbrunneralm starts about 100 m northwest of the restaurant Gruber. First you need to cross under the motorway and follow the well marked forest roads to the cross at Paltenstein and further to Puchgraben (short descent). Coming from Puchgraben, the Pucheggwiese and after crossing a steep piece of woodlands, the Aigelsbrunneralm (1526 m) are reached. Continue to ascend in a northern direction to the Leobner Törl. From there on, take the kar between Leobner Mauer and Leobner and turn left in the middle of the kar (in a southern direction) to get to the eastern ridge of the Leobner and from there on to the summit.
Descent:
as described above until you reach Puchgraben. From there on continue on the forest road to Haberlgraben and to the restaurant Gruber.
Tip:
It’s also worthwhile to take the route from the Gscheidegger farmstead in the Johnsbach valley: Gscheidegger – Grössinger Alm – Leobner Törl – Leobner (II-III). At the end of the Johnsbach valley, the tour on the Gscheideggkogel is recommended if there’s powder snow.
